It’s not something you see too often wandering down the Princes Highway near the entrance to Orbost, but a man wearing a homemade green and gold tattered superhero costume came to town last Thursday.
With a large backpack slung over his shoulder and a giant flag hanging out the back, Captain Australia, aka Simon Harvey, set off for Melbourne from Brisbane more than 60 days ago.
There is no support crew in sight, just a man with the bare necessities and a clear mission.
Not even the elements of scorching sun, torrential rain, or a snake encounter, could deter this man from completing his big walk in the name of charity – the Kids Cancer Project, which raises funds for cancer research.
“For me, the emphasis behind the Big Walk had nothing to do with charity to begin with, initially it was about an urgent need for personal healing,” Simon said.
