Since 2015, a group of people, mainly locals from the Orbost district, have been working to have the historic Snowy Rail Bridge restored and kept in its original form and structure.
As a walkway and cycleway, it will be linked into the 100km long East Gippsland Rail Trail which runs along the old railway line between Orbost and Bairnsdale.
“Much has been achieved in the past year, and the next two years will see the project take shape and move towards completion,” president of Save the Snowy Rail Bridge, Liz Mitchell, said.
“We have been successful with grant applications and have a project manager employed whose job it is to steer the project in a safe and responsible way.
“We have a project control group which supervises the whole project and reports to Save the Snowy Rail Bridge Inc. and to the grant authorities.
