Work is finally underway to upgrade the Cape Conran boat ramp, with hundreds of sandbags filling the West Cape carpark over the long weekend.
Crews have been onsite since September 12, building a cofferdam prior to beginning work on the ramp.
A cofferdam is an enclosure built within a body of water to allow the enclosed area to be pumped out.
This pumping creates a dry working environment so the work can be carried out safely.
Questions have been raised regarding the completion of the ramp upgrade, after the State Government had previously stated construction would commence in July – tenders for the new boat ramp were issued in late May.
