Parents of local school students have voiced their concern over the location of a bus stop on the outskirts of Orbost, with some opting to leave because of the risks in getting there safely.
One of the concerned parents, Raeleigh Phillips, said she’s fought for a number of years for change, but was left with no response.
“I contacted the Department of Transport and VicRoads and they all palm each other off,” Ms Phillips said.
“It is extremely dangerous for our little kids to be walking along this highway.”
There were originally two bus stops in the area, one which picked up children in the morning and was located within metres of neighbouring homes, and an afternoon drop-off bus which was originally located across the road from the morning pick-up site.
In the past few years, the after-noon drop-off bus has changed locations a number of times, but now sits more than a kilometre from local homes. This change now means children have to walk along the highway to get home.
