The suspension bridges on the McKenzie River Rainforest Walk have reopened following a further engineer’s report.
The report concluded the bridges can be safely opened to the public with the following limitations:
– No more that six people at a time on the either bridge
– No bouncing etc on the bridges
The closure barricades have been removed, appropriate warning signs have been installed and the bridges are now reopened to the public.
Parks Victoria is continuing to seek further funding for a full replacement of the bridges, at the earliest opportunity.
Check for any change of conditions at the Parks Victoria (PV) website.
The suspension bridges on the McKenzie River rainforest walk were closed to the public in February 2024. Inquiries made by the Orbost and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ODCCI) with local PV staff revealed the closures follow an annual inspection by an engineer which showed some deterioration in the structures.
The ODCCI was advised the intention is not to repair the current structures but rather to pull them down and start again.
