The Future of Orbost and District Project (FoOD) invites capable and motivated individuals or businesses to spearhead the next phase of investigation and feasibility study for a small-scale cheese and dairy processing facility.
If the feasibility study indicates potential viability, the project could advance to pre-launch preparation, launch and ongoing operations, with the prospect of expanding into a larger venture over time.
This opportunity arises from preliminary investigations conducted by a sub-group of FoOD’s Agriculture Innovation Working Group, which identified the potential benefits of leveraging the district’s strengths in dairy production.
The initiative also aims to enhance the district’s visitor economy.
While there are currently no fixed views on the business model or ownership structure, the overarching goal is to ensure shared benefits for the community.
Chair of the Project’s Governance Group, Liz Mitchell, emphasised the importance of entrepreneurial drive in turning ideas into successful commercial ventures.
“FoOD is committed to supporting the successful respondent in developing their capabilities and securing funding and investment for the next stages of this initiative,” Ms Mitchell said.
“We recognise that this opportunity involves shared risk and reward, with deferred and uncertain remuneration, but for the right individual or business, it could be the beginning of an exciting entrepreneurial journey.”
Interested parties are encouraged to contact FoOD to obtain the Call for Expressions of Interest document, learn more about the initiative and discuss the opportunity.
Expressions of interest close on September 6, 2024.
A steering group will be formalised to oversee and support the successful respondent throughout the project.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or Partnership Agreement will be negotiated to outline the collaborative framework for moving forward.
