With just one month left, the countdown is on for Orbost residents to contribute to the Operation Christmas Child project.
The official collection date for the filled shoeboxes is set for October 14, after which they will be sent off from Orbost.
Operation Christmas Child, a global
initiative by Samaritan’s Purse, brings joy to underprivileged children worldwide by delivering shoeboxes filled with essential and fun items.
Since its inception in 1993, the project has reached over 220 million children in more than 170 countries and territories.
In 2023 alone, Australia and New Zealand sent 218,215 shoeboxes to countries such as Cambodia, Ukraine, the Philippines, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
Orbost’s organiser, Vivienne Hughes, is excited to see the project continue in town.
“You can help touch the hearts of children living in vulnerable situations by being part of this project, as an individual, family, friendship group, school, church, sporting organisation, or community group,” Vivienne said.
Boxes are already available for pick-up at the Snowy River Mail office, giving residents ample time to thoughtfully fill them before the national collection dates in October.
The shoeboxes can include items such as clothing, toys, school supplies or personal hygiene products.
For more details on how to get involved or where to collect a box, please contact the Snowy River Mail office, where Vivienne Hughes’ contact information is also available.
