The Save the Snowy Rail Bridge committee is holding its second Walk and Talk on Saturday, September 21. It'll start at 10.30am from the carpark on Burns Road below Newmerella Hill. (PS)

Progress on Stage One of the restoration of the Snowy Rail Bridge is well underway, and it is now time for another Walk and Talk on Saturday, September 21.

Everyone is welcome.

Save the Snowy Rail Bridge committee is inviting the community to join them for a one-hour stroll starting at 10.30am from the carpark on Burns Road below Newmerella Hill.

For those who like directions, this is the western carpark.

The walk will head off from the carpark and along the old railway embankment leading to the bridge.

Along the way, attendees will see the Old Coach Road which was part of the original road to Orbost from the Bairnsdale direction.

Ongoers will also spend some time at the new Snowy Floodplain Lookout with its spectacular views of the Snowy River flats, Rail Bridge, Orbost and the highway, before moving on to see the recent works at the western end of the Rail Bridge and get the latest information about an under-bridge walk which is being planned.

Anyone interested is encouraged to come along and see the Stage One works which are happening on this community-led project.

The walk will be approximately 400 metres from the carpark to the bridge and a leisurely stroll of 400 metres return.

It’s an opportunity to take in the views, see construction methods and learn about the future experiences on offer for local people and visitors to this region.

More information on the project is available at the Facebook page of Save the Snowy Rail Bridge.
