A lasting legacy for Mallacoota

Five Mallacoota women have launched a community-driven campaign to purchase and transform a building in the main street into a hub of opportunity, connection and sustainability.

A bold new chapter in Mallacoota’s future has begun with the launch of a community-driven campaign to purchase and transform a building in the main street into a vibrant hub of opportunity, sustainability and connection.

This initiative, spearheaded by five remarkable local women, represents a collective vision to create a lasting legacy for the town and its people.

These women — each from different backgrounds, generations, and with unique dreams — are united by their love for Mallacoota and a deep commitment to its future.

Their shared goal is to build something truly special for the community, shifting away from a reliance on tourism and intermittent work toward fostering a culture of self-determination, entrepreneurship, and self-created opportunities.

“56 Maurice Avenue is more than just a building — it’s a beacon of hope and opportunity for everyone in Mallacoota,” said Paris Brooke, one of the women behind the campaign.

“This space will nurture ideas, promote sustainable practices, ignite new enterprises, enable multi-generational connections, and provide the skills necessary to take the next step in life.”

The vision for 56 Maurice Avenue is rooted in the values of sustainability and community collaboration.

The renovations and designs for the building have been thoughtfully developed by these local women, ensuring that the space reflects the unique character and needs of Mallacoota.

This project is not just about a building; it’s about securing the future of the town by creating a hub where people can come together, share ideas, and build a stronger, more resilient community and economy.

However, the realisation of this vision depends on the support of the wider community and beyond.

The campaign must secure the remaining funds by December 2024 to keep this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity from slipping away.

“We believe in the power of community and the impact we can have when we come together,” Brooke added.

“With your support, we can ensure that this building, and the opportunities it holds, remain in our community’s hands.”

There are many ways for businesses and individuals to get involved in this transformative project, with the public invited to join in creating a lasting legacy for Mallacoota and help secure a brighter future for the town.
