Hereford bulls from five studs across Gippsland went to auction last Wednesday, using the AuctionsPlus online system for the fourth annual Gippsland Performance Herefords bull and female sale.
Two Warringa Hereford stud bulls at Sarsfield sold to $10,000 twice, a pleasing result for vendor Bill Kee.
Mr Kee said nine of the 15 bulls offered sold which meant a clearance rate of 60 per cent.
“The average across the sale was $7333 and there were also four of 10 heifers sold at $2000 each, the females going to a stud breeder,” Mr Kee said.
The two top-priced bulls went to commercial breeders, Millring Pastoral Company, Flynn, and the Burns family at Tarwin Lower.
It was the first year females have been offered, with the Gippsland Performance Hereford group’s vision to sell
young Hereford bulls and females with structural soundness and above-average genetic merit.
Last year’s top-priced bull was Mundook Turbo T231 at $13,000, with a total of 21 bulls averaging $7250.
