Representing your priorities

by

*James Nicholas

James Nicholas will be standing in the upcoming municipal elections for council.

James has lived in Bruthen since 2003.

Married to Tammy, they have three daughters and two granddaughters.

James believes that community connected, independent councillors enable local government to best represent residents; hence his reason for standing.

James wants to contribute to the East Gippsland community, after many years of being actively involved in local community groups.

Previously, in over a decade as owner of the Bruthen General Store, James gained valuable experience of the small business sector.

Prior to my time in small business, he spent 22 years in the Australian Army across many appointments.

As an individual who has returned from active service in Iraq and Afghanistan, James is acutely aware of the need for team work and is not deterred by hard work.

Part of being connected to the community is volunteering with several community groups.

“From a local citizens association, to leadership positions within a Neighbourhood House, Recreation Reserve Committee, as Captain of a local Fire Brigade and as a volunteer with the RSL, I have skills in community-led development; attributes I can bring to council,” James said.

“The future for families of all East Gippsland must be centred on a balanced approach to development and jobs creation.

“Without it, local business, the farming sector suffers, job creation stalls and opportunity for us as a community, stagnates.

“There needs to be a balance between developing the region and maintaining the reason why we all chose to live where we do.

“Most importantly – the priorities of the East Gippsland community (your priorities) – will be the priorities I represent to council if elected.

“What can I promise. For one a balanced, common-sense approach to issues. I promise to engage with the whole community, be transparent in my dealings and contribute to effective service performance of the council.

“I invite your support.”
