There has been movement at the large pothole located near the Peachtree Creek Campground in Tamboon Inlet.
According to local, Ron Luhrs, there were recently six vehicles from DELWP and Parks Victoria and 11 people in attendance looking at the issue.
“Those 11 people were all standing around the pothole in orange safety vests in earnest discussion,” Mr Luhrs said.
“What actually annoys all of us here at Tamboon, is why waste probably a large part of 11 people’s time in money and government resources to just decide what to do about the simple fix of a pothole that should have been dealt with ages ago.”
They then returned a few days later to fill in the large pothole, however didn’t fill the smaller holes which are dotted along the road.
“Because of the Cultural Heritage Management Plan (CHMP) that’s in place, they couldn’t get a truck in to fill the hole, so they had to use a trailer,” Mr Luhrs said.
“The pothole could have been very cheaply dealt with.
“If a simple pothole causes this amount of wastage, the actual restructure of the Peachtree Creek campsite will blow out to the ridiculous – it probably already has.”
The CHMP has been in place since 2021, which allowed the pothole to expand to cover most of the gravel track, frequently flooding after heavy rain and reducing access to the Peachtree Creek Camping Reserve toilet block.
