Orbost’s “A” grade side are at home in round two of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association, hosting first round winner Lindenow South Glenaladale.
The Blues will be looking for a better performance with the bat after succumbing to less than ideal conditions at Wy Yung last Saturday.
Skipper, Curtley Farley will be keen to get going with the bat and set a total that his bowling attack led by Luke Endley can defend.
The Bulls are looming as the side to beat, so the Blues will need to play near to their ability to be competitive.
Orbost has withdrawn its team from the “A” reserve competition, after deciding that it doesn’t have a team capable of being competitive in that grade of cricket.
The club is among a number of clubs that has asked for the convening of “special general meeting” to discuss several suggestions in regards of grading, including the future of the “A” reserve competition which has been left lamenting with just five teams.
Orbost is keen to field another team in the “B” grade competition, with the future of their endeavour to be included in a lower grade a possibility to be known as early as the end of this week.
The current arrangement looks less than ideal with just five teams in “A” reserve, and the Blues having just one side, but it remains to be seen if the Bairnsdale Cricket Association is open to change for the betterment of the game at this late stage.
The Blues junior teams will open their 2024/25 campaigns this week, with the under 13s playing Lucknow at the Lucknow Recreation Reserve on Friday night.
The Orbost/Bruthen composite under 16 side will play Wy Yung at the Cameron White Oval from 8.45am on Saturday morning.
