Thanks to the work of local residents and a Tiny Town grant from the State Government, Nowa Nowa will soon unveil a beautiful new work on its Culture Sculpture Walk.
Along the top of the Nowa Nowa Arm of Lake Tyers, the Culture Sculpture Walk has been a long-time favourite of locals and visitors.
The walk reflects Nowa Nowa’s creative history, though residents have been dismayed by vandalism and more recently the theft of one of its favourites.
The response from locals is to begin to revitalise the walk and the installation of Out of the Box by Gippsland sculptor Gavin Roberts is a first step. Out of the Box reflects the local community’s love and respect for the indigenous round leaf box tree and the natural environment.
Gavin Roberts is a Gippsland artist who uses timber, stone and steel to create the useful through to the whimsical by drawing out the unseen, mysterious and imaginative aspects from the seemingly obvious side of nature.
Gavin is the resident artist at The Art Colt in Stratford and is an awarded member of the Sculptors Association of Victoria and a regular exhibitor at the Orbost Exhibition Centre.
The reveal of the sculpture is on November 9 at 10am at the sculpture site, preceded by the Solar Sessions Concert, featuring Wilson Blackley, Saije and Olivia Lay, at the Nowa Nowa Recreation Reserve on November 8.
The reveal will include breakfast and nature-based print-making workshop.
