It was a disappointing start to the Gippsland Bowls Region Superleague season for the Orbost Bowls Club, making the long trek to Stratford and going down 73-56.
All three rinks were competitive, but the result for the Green Machine was the halving of one rink by Geoff Lynn, Maurice Frank, Ron Hatcher and Geoff Robinson, after a 21 apiece tie.
It was no fairytale debut for prized recruit, Bradley Lancaster, going down 26-18.
This week will see a home game played against reigning premier, Bairnsdale, which should be a hard-fought match.

The next social bowls afternoon will be on Thursday, if you intend to play, please be at the club no later than 12.30pm to allow the match committee to sort the teams.
