It was a disappointing start to the Gippsland Bowls Region Superleague season for the Orbost Bowls Club, making the long trek to Stratford and going down 73-56.

All three rinks were competitive, but the result for the Green Machine was the halving of one rink by Geoff Lynn, Maurice Frank, Ron Hatcher and Geoff Robinson, after a 21 apiece tie.

It was no fairytale debut for prized recruit, Bradley Lancaster, going down 26-18.

This week will see a home game played against reigning premier, Bairnsdale, which should be a hard-fought match.

CLUB 100 UP CHAMPIONSHIPS

The ladies and men’s 100 up championship matches will be held on Thursday, October 24, commencing with a roll up at 9.45am followed immediately by the match.

Members can enter by adding your name to the entries list on the clubs outside notice board no later than 9am on the 24th day.

All players are required to wear club uniform.

SOCIAL BOWLS

Having concluded the junior bowls program for this year, social bowls are back to the usual days of Thursdays and Sundays.

Last week, Thursday and Sunday provided beautiful bowling weather, with both afternoons seeing a good turnout of bowlers.

Each session saw one game of 16 ends played, with the winners on Thursday being Ron Hatcher, assisted by Rob Black and David Perry.

The next social bowls afternoon will be on Thursday, if you intend to play, please be at the club no later than 12.30pm to allow the match committee to sort the teams.
