It was a day of contrasts at the Vicbream Classic event at Marlo last weekend, with big fish not hitting the hook until Sunday.
The event saw 241 fish caught and released, with 117 landed on Saturday and 124 weighed in on Sunday.
Saturday was a seriously tough fishing day for anglers, while Sunday saw the big bream come out to play with some cracking bags hitting the scales.
The event was taken out by the father/son team of Mario and Mikey Vukic who produced a fantastic weekend of fishing improving from fourth on Saturday night to claim the title.
Their 10 bream catch for the weekend weighed in at 10.145 kilograms.
That was enough to just beat Lakes Entrance father/son duo, Lindsay and Steven Pryke, whose Sunday bag of the tournament saw them just miss the major prize.
The Pryke’s 10 bream weighed in at 10.045 kilograms, highlighted by Sunday’s monster haul of 5.895 kilograms, with local knowledge to the fore.
Finishing in third place were Tony Curwin and Mike Hodges who weighed in 10 bream for a grand total of 10.025 kilograms.
The biggest bream of the event was landed by another father/son combination, Brad and Cooper Hodges who weighed in a Marlo beast, hitting the scales at 1.510 kilograms.
The junior angler prize not surprisingly went to young Cooper Hodges, while the prize for the biggest perch went to Paul Malov and Alex Franchuk who caught a cracking perch that weighed 1.650 kilograms.
Organisers were delighted with the response to the event, with East Gippsland on most anglers bucket list.
