It was a disappointing result for the Orbost Bowls Club in last 10 days in Gippsland Bowls Region pennant matches.
Last week in midweek pennant, the club’s division two side was unable to back up the win from round one, despite winning two of three rinks on the road against Howitt Park. Going down by 10 shots, 52-42.
Beryl Dyce, Des Edwards, Maurie Frank, Ron Hatcher (17-13), and Kerry Edwards, Margaret Coulton, Janice and Geoff Lynn (17-12) all winners.
Division one went down in a thrilling encounter at the Lindenow Bowling Club, losing 67-63 to the Cockies.
Brad Lancaster skippered his team of Bruce Kneebone, Gwen Hatcher and Peter Coulton to a 32-13 win almost securing the day.
Round four will be a must win home game, this Saturday against West Sale.
CLUB 100 UP CHAMPIONSHIPS
The elimination games for both the 2024/2025 ladies and men’s 100 up championships were held last Thursday, with matches continuing through the morning and into the afternoon.
Although the games were played in sunshine it was accompanied by a very chilly breeze.
The grand finalists have been decided, with Greg Rankin opposing Jurgen Fichtner for the men’s title, and Lynette Broersen set to take on Margaret Coulton in the ladies’ finale.
The matches will start at 9.45am on Thursday.
SOCIAL BOWLS
With the 100 up Championships being played last Thursday, the only social bowls played last week was Sunday’s Scroungers competition, which was the last round in the current competition.
The high point scorers for last round were Karen Chenney with 64 points, Lyn Broersen with 60 and Geoff Lynn with 57.
The overall winner for the seven rounds of the competition was Geoff Lynn with a total of 361, followed by Maurice Frank on 347 and Bruce Kneebone on 294.
The highest average scores per match was won by Karen Chenney with 60.3 points, followed by Sue Robinson on 60 and Ron Hatcher on 59.
The next social bowls session will be on Thursday, if you wish to play, please be at the club no later than 12.30pm.
BAREFOOT ACTION
Twilight Bowls is back, starting this coming Friday and will be held every Friday evening except for a short break over Christmas and the New Year.
The club will be opened at 5.30pm and people can come along at any time after that and stay for as long as they wish.
The barbecue facilities will be ready for use, so why not bring along your own meal and make an evening of it.
The licenced bar and eftpos will also be available, with bowls provided and and some training in the basics of bowling can be arranged.
To protect the green, players are asked to wear flat soled shoes, socks or bare feet.
