Children’s Week 2024 was in full swing last week, running from Saturday, October 19, to Sunday, October 27, with a national focus on recognising the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.
Local councils across the country have taken up the cause with enthusiasm and the East Gippsland Shire Council is no exception.
The region has lined up an exciting series of activities to engage children and families during this important week, with a particular highlight being a visit from everyone’s favourite blue heeler pup, Bluey, at the Orbost Service Centre and other libraries across the shire.
Bluey’s visit on Tuesday brought smiles and excitement to the local children, who had the chance to meet the beloved character in person.
An after-school session also gave the kids an opportunity to get hands-on with a fun and educational crafting activity on Thursday which luckily coincided with one of the participants, Todd Janson’s birthday so he shared cakes with the other children participating.
They worked together to create wooden koala pen holders, an activity designed to foster creativity and encourage fine motor skills in young participants as well as played other games such as throwing balls into tubs.
