The Future of Orbost and District (FoOD) project is inviting community members to come together and be part of action-oriented conversations for supporting collective impact.

At its August information and networking evening, the FoOD project committed to bringing together interested individuals to explore effective ways of collaborating to bring ideas and opportunities to life and foster positive change across the district.

The next gathering is focused on collective leadership and strategic doing – two key elements that drive meaningful action and lasting impact.

Whether individuals or groups are already working on a project that benefits the community or are looking for ways to get more involved, this event is designed for them.

Tabatha Jarman, deputy chair of the project’s governance group, emphasised that strengthening engagement and collaboration across the community is a top priority and the forum is designed to foster greater alignment.

“There’s a lot happening under the umbrella of the FoOD project, alongside many other initiatives,” Ms Jarman said.

“This event is about how we can build more momentum and deliver greater impact through collective leadership.

“Collective leadership means leadership is shared among many, encouraging diverse perspectives and collaborative decision-making.

“It empowers the whole community to contribute their skills and ideas toward achieving shared goals, ensuring that progress is driven by many voices working together.”

The forum will be held between 4pm and 6.30pm on November 13.

There is no charge for the forum, however registrations are essential.

Registrations can made via the Future of Orbost and District website.

The FoOD project is a response to the impacts of the end of native timber harvesting in Victoria’s state forests and the need to transition the local economy.

The purpose of the project is to build on to Orbost and district’s existing strengths and leverage opportunities for supporting positive economic, social, and environmental outcomes.

The Future of Orbost project is receiving support through the Victorian Government’s Forestry Transition Program’s Community Stream through to September 2025.

The Orbost and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry has an agreement with the Department of Energy Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) to deliver the FoOD project, which is overseen by a community-led governance group.
