The bowls season is well and truly underway, the members at the Orbost Bowls Club being kept busy with plenty of playing options.
While not coming away with a win in the Gippsland Bowls Region midweek pennant last week, the division two team managed a draw in an away game against Lindenow.
The side currently sit third on the ladder, with one win, one loss and a draw from three matches.
Greg Rankin, Des Edwards, Maurice Frank and Ron Hatcher were convincing winners 24-16, as were Janice Lynn, Kerry Edwards, Margaret Coulton and Geoff Lynn, 22-15 victors.
In weekend Pennant, division one came away with a much-needed win in a home game against West Sale, claiming 12 match points with a combined score of 57-44.
Geoffrey Robinson’s team of Ron Hatcher, Maurice Frank and Geoff Lynn had an outstanding win 26-10.
Margaret Coulton, Scott Farnell, Karen Chenney and Geoff Aitken were also victorious 16-13.
The Green Machine will make the long trek to Heyfield for round five on Saturday.
CLUB 100 Up CHAMPIONSHIPS
The finals of the men’s and ladies 100 Up Championships were held last Thursday morning.
The champions for this 2024/25 are Greg Rankin and Margaret Coulton.
Rankin defeated Jurgen Fichtner being runner up Coulton proving too good for Lynette Broersen.
The next championships will be the men’s and ladies’ singles with the knockout matches starting on Thursday, November 21.
Entries for the singles championships are now open.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Social bowls was a quiet affair on Sunday with several regulars either away playing in the State fours at the Bairnsdale Golf Club or travelling for the weekend.
So a friendly roll up was played by the bowlers that were present.
Thursday afternoon’s session followed on from the 100up finals, with a single game of 12 ends organised with the winning team being Maurice Frank (skip), David Perry and Jenny Gurney.
The next social bowls will be today, as usual please be at the club no later than 12.30pm if you wish to play.
BAREFOOT/TWILIGHT BOWLS
Twilight bowls had a quiet start last Friday evening and will continue to be held every Friday evening except for a short break over Christmas and the New Year.
The club opens at 5.30pm and people can come along at any time after that and stay for as long as they wish.
The club’s barbecue facilities will be ready for use, so why not bring along your own meal and make an evening of it.
The licensed bar and eftpos will also be available.
Bowls will be provided and if required some training in the basics of bowling can be arranged.
To protect the green, players are asked to wear flat soled shoes, socks or bare feet.
