Orbost Community College’s school magazine group was treated to a tour of James Yeates Printing and Communications in Bairnsdale recently, where the Snowy River Mail, Bairnsdale Advertiser and Lakes Post are printed.
They went to see the printing process and explore different apprenticeship careers and options for work experience.
They met community news reporter Rylee Pardew who went to Orbost Secondary College.
The students said they enjoyed seeing the different machines, the process of printing newspapers and how they are then collated to be delivered around the region.
“I enjoyed seeing the different machines and how huge they seemed in person,” Rose McDowall said.
“I liked seeing the workers put the aluminium printing plates in the printer,” Laura Light said.
“I liked watching the printing machines,” Alyssa McDonald said.
“I liked watching the newspapers get printed,” Allaura Grenfell said.
“I enjoyed watching the newspapers get put together,” Charlie McKerlie said.
