The next ride for the Tambo Upper Trail Riding Club will be led by Mandy Smith this Sunday, November 17, from the Old Melwood School picnic area on Boggy Creek Road.
This ride has become a fixed event on the club calendar due to its popularity with the riders. Mandy has been supported by other club riders and put a lot of effort into mapping out a safe ride that offers variety and great scenery.
Of particular interest are the old Chinese rock gold diggings and the spectacular gorge on Boggy Creek. Time will be taken for riders to dismount and have a good look at these sites.
Ride out time will be 10am sharp and will return before 3pm. Riders should bring a saddlebag lunch and afternoon tea to share at the floats.
The starting point is at the old Melwood School, 685 Boggy Creek Road, Melwood. Please take your horse manure away with you or scatter it under the trees away from the picnic area.
The recent October ride was out of Briagolong. This ride was cancelled last year due to local bushfires, followed by heavy rains.
Lyn King and Julie Reading live in the area and put a tremendous amount of effort into mapping out a challenging route that tested horse and rider.
The morning section was along ferny tracks and trails which led to a long steep climb up to the Horse Grounds Lookout and fire tower. The 360 degree views were simply spectacular, the horses and riders stopped to soak in the outlook.
The group then dropped down lower for lunch and a welcome break for recovery for the horses. The return route to the floats featured a couple of steep descents which the horses handled well.
On returning to the floats the horses were washed down, watered and tended to after their hard day. Afternoon tea was then enjoyed in Lyn’s backyard on her lovely property.
Tambo rides are held on the third Sunday of every month and are suitable for most standards. Visitors are welcome and juniors are also encouraged but must be accompanied by a guardian and able to ride independently. For more information contact Caroline Driscoll or Sue Cullinan.
