More than 26,000 people in Gippsland will see their student debts slashed, should the Albanese Government win a second term at the election next year.
A breakdown of the number of student debts by electorate reveals that 26,514 people in the electorates of Gippsland and Monash will have their debts cut by 20 per cent after the election.
This isn’t just for uni debts; it also includes debts from TAFE courses and apprenticeship loans that exist on June 1 next year.
For someone with the average HECS debt of $27,600 they will see around $5520 wiped from their loan next year.
“I’m thrilled that over 26,500 Gippslanders have the chance to have their student debts slashed,” Senator Jess Walsh said.
“And that so many more can have access to further education with Fee-Free TAFE.
“I’m so proud to be part of a party that values education, students and apprentices, and works to ease cost of living pressures for people in Gippsland.”
Combined with other Albanese Government measures – this will mean an around $20 billion cut in student loan debt for about three million Australians.
The Albanese Government will also introduce legislation to establish Fee-Free TAFE as an enduring feature of the national vocational education and training system, funding 100,000 Fee-Free TAFE places a year in critical areas from 2027.
