Gippsland Opera’s concert on Sunday, November 17 at St Mary’s Church was full of magical moments.

The musicians of East Gippsland Symphonia, led by conductor Carryn Caithness, set the tone of the day with a delightful mix of music theatre, including Aladdin and West Side Story.

Along with the musicians, it was the icing on the top with Nathan Lay, baritone.

He was one of the ‘Ten Tenors’ and is now permanently an Opera Australia singer.

He was the singing voice in the film Falling for Figaro starring the award-winning actress, Joanna Lumley.

He was chosen because of that voice, and what a voice it is – very expressive, with great warmth of tone.

This was illustrated in everything he sang, from Remembrance songs to opera arias, to music theatre.

Nathan can undoubtedly sing anything, and the audience agreed that this is without doubt a singer that is world-class.

Bridgid DeNeefe brought a different tone to the afternoon, with her humorous songs and her passion for food songs showing her versatility to sing any genre.

The singers were accompanied by pianist, Kerrith Cummins.

The 10th Opera By The Lakes will return to Nyerimilang Heritage Park on Sunday, March 16, 2025.

Audiences once again will be spoilt by so much talent, with Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Antoinette Halloran, Shanul Sharma, Dimity Shepherd, plus local GP Wil Hardy – a talented musician, singer, actor and dancer, who will again be accompanied by David McNicol.

Boxed lunches available, plus lots of laughter and camaraderie. Tickets are selling fast – go to Try Booking or contact Andrea Ford.
