Orbost’s long trek to to Sale for its Gippsland Bowls Region weekend pennant fixture against Sale 2 was worthwhile, with the Green Machine denying the home side its first victory for the season, 69-44.
Winners for the Green Machine were Geoff Lynn, Maurice Frank, Peter Coulton, Geoff Robinson (24-11) and Ron Hatcher, Jurgen Fitchner, Robin Kellow and boom recruit Bradley Lancaster (27-11).
Weather again interrupted the game with a short sharp hailstorm which fortunately didn’t last long enough to cause any major disruption.
The overall win gained Orbost 12 match points however they still sit 11th on their ladder.
This Saturday’s match is another away game against Metung.
There was disappointment last week in round eight of midweek pennant, with Orbost going down 53-60 in their away game against Paynesville 2.
Only one of the three rinks was successful, Gwen Hatcher, Bruce Kneebone, Jurgen Fichtner and Lynette O’Brien the winning team with a score of 20-16.
The other two teams going down 16-23 and 17-21, thankfully the loss did not affect the team’s ladder position, remaining second on the ladder.

Last Thursday’s social bowls were held in hot sunny weather with the match committee deciding on two games of eight ends, with the winning pair for the afternoon being Greg Rankin (skip) and Ralph Harding.

The club will be opened at 5.30pm and people can come along at any time after that and stay for as long as they wish.
The club’s barbecue facilities will be ready for use, so why not bring along your own meal and make an evening of it.
The licensed bar and karaoke machine will also be available.
Bowls will be provided and if required some training in the basics of bowling can be arranged, to protect the green, players are asked to wear flat soled shoes, socks or bare feet.
