Domestic violence remains a pervasive issue, with sobering statistics revealing the immense toll it takes globally.
According to the World Health Organisation, intimate partner violence is the most common form of violence against women, impacting 30 per cent of women worldwide.
Even more troubling, 38 per cent of all female homicides are committed by intimate partners.
In Australia, the crisis hits close to home, with one woman losing her life to domestic violence every week on average.
Recognising the urgent need for change, Rotary clubs across Australia and New Zealand have stepped up to tackle this issue head-on.
Rotary Pacific is spearheading a Community Awareness Campaign Against Domestic Violence with a series of days of action aimed at educating communities, raising awareness and fostering support for victims.
Inspired by Rotary’s past successes, like the global effort to eradicate polio, Rotary leaders believe they can make a difference in ending domestic violence.
The Rotary Club of Orbost is proud to host a local event to bring this vital campaign to the community on Saturday, December 14 from noon at Forest Park.
The event will feature a community walk starting from the car park.
“This campaign aims to educate, raise awareness and encourages action to prevent domestic violence and support survivors,” Orbost Rotarian, Dave Redden said.
“Everyone is welcome to participate so let’s come together to foster a safe, supportive, and respectful community.
“Let’s break the silence and make a difference.”
