At the recent iTet concert held at the Iwaki Auditorium in Melbourne, the spotlight shone brightly on two young
Bairnsdale cellists, Rahsa Long and Angus Durie.
These talented boys, members of the local youth music program Crashendo! East Gippsland, delivered a stunning performance as a cello duet. Under the guidance of their dedicated tutor, John Noble, Rahsa and Angus have blossomed into remarkable musicians.
Rahsa, now a year eight student from Bairnsdale Secondary College, and Angus, about to start grade six at Lindenow Primary School, have been mentored through John Noble’s iTet Quartet Program by attending monthly webinar-style sessions.
Noble, a respected figure in the music community, uses his unique method of delivering virtual mentoring lessons to string ensembles and quartets across Victoria, allowing him to provide access to quality music education for students who might otherwise be isolated from such opportunities.
The annual concert celebrates the achievements of young regional and rural
musicians, by giving them an opportunity to perform in a world class venue with other music students from across the state in front of a large audience, an experience that may be out of reach for many regional students.
