Since 2010, the first Saturday of the month has been home to the Orbost Annual Poker Run, and this Saturday, March 1, is no different.
Last year’s ride registered a record-breaking number of participants, with 207 riders signing up for the 14th event.
This year’s event will start with registrations from 9.30am at McDonald’s Bairnsdale, with stands up at 10.30am.
The route will travel from Bairnsdale to Lindenow via Meerlieu, Bruthen, Marlo via Cape Conran and Orbost.
There will then be a charity auction and presentation from 7.30pm at the Orbost Club Hotel.
The Orbost Poker Run was founded in 2010 when Kim and Dave Hibberson approached Mick Colling, the previous owner of the Orbost Club Hotel, wanting to give something back to the Ronald McDonald House Monash (RMHM) in recognition of their care and support.
The first year of the Poker Run raised more than $5000 for RMHM, and since then the annual event has raised over $300,000 and has become among RMHM’s largest donors.
The event was recognised in 2015 for its efforts, being awarded the East Gippsland Shire Community Event of the Year, and was nominated for the award this year.
