The finals of the men’s and ladies singles (handicapped) championships were held last Thursday morning, with the winners being Ron Hatcher and Jenny Gurney.
The games were held in hot humid conditions in front of a healthy crowd of spectators.
In the men’s game, Hatcher won against Scott Farnell after a gruelling two hour epic, where they had to work off their handicaps before finally getting on the scoreboard, with Hatcher reaching the necessary score of 21 first.
The ladies match was a faster affair, with the ladies having lower handicaps than the men, Gurney was the first to reach 21, beating her opponent, Lyn Broersen.
The next club championships will be the mixed pairs which will be held on April 16 and 24.
Entries are already open for the event.
SOCIAL
The hot humid conditions encountered last Thursday morning in the championship games continued into the afternoon session of social bowls, however this did not discourage members from playing.
Two games of 10 ends were played with the winners for the afternoon being Maurice Frank (skip), Trevor Hawkey and Sue Robinson.
Sunday saw a complete reversal of the weather, with cool overcast conditions, which encouraged one of the best turn out of bowlers in recent weeks.
Two games of eight ends were played, with two teams winning both their games, the match committee had to do a count back with the winners on 31 points, being Des Edwards (skip), Hatcher, Dennis McCann and Lorraine Hawkey.
The next social bowls afternoon will be on Thursday, March 6, bowlers need to be at the club no later than 12.30pm so that the match committee can organise the teams.
