Orbost Bowling Club was well represented at the annual Tambo Valley Bowling Club long weekend tournament.
The two-day tournament is always a friendly and enjoyable experience, with several of the Orbost attendees deciding to join in the fun by sporting distinctive shirts as their uniform for the weekend.
Each day was meant to consist of three games of 12 ends, however, with the temperatures staying in the 30s on both days, the last game on Sunday was reduced to eight ends by a majority decision.
The Orbost teams had no success on Saturday, but this changed on Sunday, with the Orbost team of Geoff Lynn (skip), Jurgen Fichtner, Jan Lynn and Beryl Dyce, nicknamed the “Snowy Rollers” for the tournament, winning the day.
The weekend was very enjoyable, with the Orbost participants having already marked their calendars for next year.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The next club championships will be the mixed pairs which will be played on April 16 and 24.
A date has not yet been set for the championship fours.
SOCIAL
Thursday was the only afternoon of social bowls last week, with the weather hot and sunny, it was originally decided to play two games of 10 ends, but the second game was reduced to eight ends as several players found the heat uncomfortable.
Once again two teams managed to win both their games, so the winners for the afternoon had to be decided on a countback, with Karen Chenney (skip), Maurice Frank and Dennis McCann being declared the winners on 32 points.
Sunday’s social bowls was cancelled due to the majority of regular players going to either the annual Tambo Valley Tournament or to a competition in Lakes Entrance.
The next social bowls afternoon will be on today, with players to be at the club no later than 12.30pm if you wish to play.
