Volunteer groups and networks protecting and restoring our precious environment can now apply for project funding thanks to the State Government.
Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos has announced the opening of the 2025 Victorian Landcare Grants, with $3.55 million available to support volunteer groups in caring for the state’s landscapes and biodiversity.
The grants are open to environmental volunteer groups and networks, including Landcare groups and networks, Friends groups, Conservation Management Networks, Committees of Management, Coastcare groups and Aboriginal groups.
Project grants of up to $20,000 are available for on-ground works and community education projects focused on enhancing the natural environment, including native vegetation and wildlife, waterways and soils.
Support Grants of up to $500 are available to assist with administrative and operational expenses of groups and networks.
Since 2000, the Victorian Government has invested $80.7 million through the Victorian Landcare Grants program to support conservation efforts and empower Victorians to help protect the state’s landscapes, waterways and wildlife.
“Last year, the Victorian Landcare Grants funded 25 projects in the East Gippsland region,” Bec Hemming, chief executive officer of the East Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, said.
“A great example of a project funded last year is the Glenaladale Landcare Group, in partnership with Lindenow South Primary School. They are working on a vibrate firewise garden project, aimed at reducing wildfire risks within the school grounds by introducing fire resistant plants and materials. The garden is underway and a fantastic example of sustainable landscaping, enhancing the safety of the school grounds and offering hands on learning opportunities for the students and their families.”
Applications for the Victorian Landcare Grants will close on April 16.
