Fishing trip’s soggy finish

Fishing trip’s soggy finish

A stunning sunset did little to suppress the disappointment and frustration of one Melbourne visitor when his four-wheel drive vehicle needed rescuing from the Snowy River at the Marlo Jetty last Thursday night.

It finished up an expensive day of fishing for the visitor when the vehicle he was backing to collect his friend’s boat proceeded to follow the trailer into the water, finishing up with just inches left above the water.

“I got the call at about 5.10pm on the mobile,” Marlo Coast Guard volunteer, Tanya Coleman, said.

“I sent two guys down to see that everyone was okay and they got into their wetsuits and headed in. It was still floating at that point.

“I headed down there at about 5.15pm and I think it must have been there for about half to three quarters of an hour at that point. It had floated further away from the boat ramp and towards the jetty.

“The guys tried to pull the boat in but it hit the concrete at the end of the ramp and sunk. A tow truck was called and with a local salvage guy who works with them they managed to winch it out.

“It wasn’t until about 7.30pm that they finally managed to get it out.”

Nobody was physically hurt during the ordeal – pride, however, certainly took a beating.
