Cheers, publicans

For Marlo Hotel publicans, Russell Bates and Matt Coad, it was last drinks on Sunday after they signed off from running the iconic pub in the coastal resort town for well over a decade.
As of Monday, the hotel was handed over to a consortium of new owners who will now become its custodians.
The end of an era was bittersweet for Mr Coad, who initially bought the pub with his best mate and their respective wives 13 years ago.
When that didn’t work out after about 12 months, Mr Bates stepped in to form a joint partnership with Mr Coad.
“It’s been a successful partnership and I would have happily kept going but I’m glad we’ve made the decision to sell, it gives me time to think about doing other things,” Mr Coad told the Snowy last week.
