Locals protest library review

Despite the dreary weather, a group of passionate library lovers turned out to show their support on the steps of the Orbost Service Centre on Friday afternoon in protest of the proposed cuts by the East Gippsland Shire Council review.
“I am so pleased with the amount of people here today. I had lots of people saying that they were wanting to hold a meeting behind closed doors, but I thought that we’d be much better off to show our support publicly,” organiser, Jenni Bartlett, said.
The Orbost Service Centre also hosts the Orbost Museum on behalf of the Orbost and District Historical Society.
“Come on Orbost, we must stand together on this very important issue of saving our library and other services,” Heather Terrell said.
“We know the positive things it brings to our daily lives - this is all about Orbost.
“However, I feel the same as any town or country area that has library cuts. Libraries are needed and are so very important for everyone.”
