This Sunday, April 6, the accomplished young pianist, Joshua Hooke, will again entertain his fans with the pianistic skills which ‘wowed’ his Bairnsdale audience this time last year and which have brought him recognition both in Australia and overseas.
In this concert, presented by POMEG, Josh will play a wonderful program of Scarlatti, Schubert and Chopin. His warm presentation, secure and technically excellent pianistic ability and his youthful appeal makes this concert a must for young pianists who are keen for inspiration. In fact, people of all ages will love this concert.
The performance will start with three short single-movement sonatas by Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti. These late Baroque sonatas, of which Scarlatti wrote more than 550, are well known and enjoyed by students, accomplished pianists and audiences alike. The first half of the program, however, is mainly devoted to the wonderful A minor (Op143) piano sonata of Franz Schubert, recognised as the first of Schubert’s really significant piano works and one of his most popular.
For the second half of the program Josh will treat his audience to a splendid selection of piano works by the great Polish-born composer and virtuoso pianist Frederic Chopin whose works all feature the piano, and are mostly technically demanding for the pianist. The audience will hear the Polish and French influences in the Polonaise-Fantasie, two Nocturnes and a Scherzo, all of which will sound wonderful played by Josh on the concert grand piano.
This greatly anticipated concert is this Sunday, April 6, 2pm, at Bairnsdale Uniting Church, corner of Great Alpine Road and Lanes Road, Lucknow.
Pay at the door. Tea and coffee will be available during interval. School students are free.
