Mavis Rayner was awarded life membership of the Orbost Croquet Club at the recent Annual General Meeting.
Mavis, who is 94 years of age, has been a member of the club since 2008, when the club started up again after many years.
She is still going strong and has been a real asset to the club, helping and teaching many new members young and old over that time.
To make the occasion a poem was written in Mavis’ honour, titled Well Played – Mavis:
With mallet in hand and purpose so clear,
Mavis, you’ve brought us such joy year to year.
At Orbost Croquet, you stood as a guide,
With laughter and wisdom forever beside.
You’ve played through the sun, the wind and the rain,
With patience, precision, and never a strain.
More than a player – you’re part of a team,
That makes this fine club feel steady and supreme.
From helping with events. and welcoming friends,
Your care and your spirit know no end.
You’ve given your time, your heart, and your cheer,
And we honour your service with love and good cheer.
A life membership- richly deserved,
Is a tribute to how deeply you’ve served.
