Danny Redenbach is chair of a concerned group of residents living close to the planned Ballantine Solar power plant at 280 Bengworden Road, Bairnsdale.
To be able to see the Minister for Planning the group had to cobble together 800 signatures and present them to local MP Tim Bull who in-turn seeks a meeting with the minister responsible for whether or not the solar structures go ahead.
The quietly concerned group has been disappointed in the consultation process it has observed so far. In fact, according to Danny consultation has been essentially non-existent with the local residents in the area.
Danny said the group is not against solar energy, but questions the position of the proposed solar power plant in relation to the developing Bairnsdale Aerodrome.
Currently the Bairnsdale Airport has 5000 aircraft movements a year, the Royal Flying Doctor Service has recently
built a million dollar patient receiving centre and $10 million or more is to be spent extending the runway if government agencies can wade through their own red tape.
During the Black Summer Bushfires the daily flights servicing the bushfire zones were sometimes upwards of 100 flights.
Danny and the group have a list of reasonable concerns to present to the Minister for Planning when they meet.
