Work is underway on a new Changing Places facility in Cann River, helping to make the town more accessible and inclusive for people of all abilities.
A temporary ‘Marveloo’ was relocated to Cann River (from Lakes Entrance) in February 2025.
The mobile facility sits adjacent to the proposed Changing Places site, ensuring continued access to safe and private amenities for people with disability and high support needs during construction.
Construction of the permanent Changing Places facility
in Cann River is now underway, with completion expected late 2025.
A new Changing Places facility is also available in Lakes Entrance.
Changing Places facilities are designed to meet the needs of people with disability and high support requirements.
These facilities go beyond standard accessible toilets, offering:
– A height-adjustable adult-sized change table
– A ceiling track hoist system with constant charging
– A centrally located peninsula toilet
– Extra circulation space for carers and mobility equipment
– An automatic door with a minimum 950mm clear opening
– A privacy screen for added dignity
Facilities across East Gippsland are easily identified as they look the same and are accessed using a Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK), allowing 24-hour access for eligible users.
For many people with high support needs, access to a Changing Places facility means being able to enjoy a day out with family, participate in community events, or simply go about daily activities with dignity and independence.
This project is jointly funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and East Gippsland Shire Council.
