The current Victorian Netball League (VNL) season may have just finished but the Gippsland Stars are already well
into preparation for the 2026 season.
They will be holding a player screening for players interested in participating in the VNL in 2026.
The event will be held at the Warragul Leisure Centre on Sunday (July 27) from 4pm, this will be the first trial for players that did not play in the 2025 VNL or weren’t involved in the 2025 Gippsland Stars development program.
The Stars will have three VNL teams in 2026 as well as three pathways teams.
They will compete at VNL level in the 23 and under, Reserves (under 19) and Championship competition.
Pathway teams will include open development, 19 and under, and 17 and under.
VNL Championship and 23 and under competition matches are played on Wednesday nights at the State Netball Centre in Parkville, with training session are held in Warragul on Sundays.
The 23 and under competition is the state’s elite competition for players born between 2003-2010.
The VNL Reserves is a newly introduced competition in 2025, an elite pathway competition mainly for players born between 2007-2010.
Matches are played at the State Netball Centre on Tuesday night, with training session also held in Warragul on Sundays.
The open age development squad plays in the Waverley Premier competition on Tuesday night.
The Gippsland Stars 19 and under development squad compete in State Super Netball Series Premier Division at Waverley, with matches on Friday night.
The 17 and under team compete in the State Super Netball Series under 19 division one league, also at Waverley on Friday nights.
Both underage development sides train on Monday nights in Traralgon.
Players will be invited to player trials for VNL teams at sessions to be held at Traralgon (August 24) and Warragul (August 27).
