It was a tough weekend for the Orbost Snowy Rovers on the netball courts at the Cabbage Patch in round 14 of East Gippsland netball, although two thrilling victories in the junior grades got the supporters who made the trip to Boisdale up and about.
In the under 17s, the Blues sit comfortably in third place on the ladder after easily overcoming the Bombers, 31-12.
Holly Hanratty, Jess Griebenow and Remmi MacDonnell were among the better players for Orbost.
Another great win the under 15s has seen the Blues strengthen its hold on fourth spot, now a game clear of fifth-placed Wy Yung.
Orbost 36-18 winners, with Hanratty and Leila Barnes leading the way.
The “A” grade match featured the fourth and fifth-ranked sides in the competition, and after the Bombers’ 55-43 victory, six matches now separate them on the table.
The Blues certainly weren’t disgraced, taking the game right up to Bombers at times, but they aren’t playing at the level that saw them become premiership winners in 2024.
Chelsea Di Cecco, Hayley Boxall and Jorja Savory led the charge for Orbost, who just found the Bombers too steady at vital moments in a tough contest.
Boisdale Briagolong was too good in “B” grade, winning convincingly 35-17, with Tamara Heyne, Jess Griebenow and Chloe Shanahan all trying hard for the Blues.
It was a dominant performance by the Bombers in “C” grade, victorious 70-10, with Jess Chambers an honourable mention for
the Blues.
It was a similar result in “D” grade, with the Bombers big winners, 63-12, Caitlin Schafer and junior player, Jasmine Westaway among the best players for the losers.
A competitive match in the under 13s opened the day, Orbost took the match right up to the Bombers, who just did enough late in the quarters to assert their authority.
Boisdale 31-20 victors, with Hayley Russell and Mila Mundy again leading the way
for the Blues.
Orbost Snowy Rovers will host Lakes Entrance this week at Lochiel Park.
