Social bowls continue to scratch the competitive itch for the Orbost bowls community.
Thursday afternoon’s session hosted a small number of bowlers, who were hardy enough to come out to play in the bitterly
cold conditions.
It was agreed prior to starting to try and play at least 10 ends, however the bowlers persevered to complete 15 ends after which they retired to the clubhouse for hot drinks and to thaw out.
Sunday saw a complete turnaround in the weather which allowed the planned game of Russian Roulette to be played.
This format called for four games of six ends, with each bowler playing on a different rink for each game and never playing with the same people in their team.
Every player has their own personal score card with the results entered into a computer which then ranked the individual players.
The winners on were Bruce Kneebone with a score of 17, followed by Lyn O’Brien with 12 and Greg Rankin on seven.
The next round of social bowls will be this Thursday with players asked to be at the club no later than 12.30pm.
Next Sunday’s social bowls has be scheduled as open pairs with three games of eight ends to be played with cash prizes for the winning pair.
DRILLS AND SKILLS
The Saturday morning session was held in near perfect bowling weather, a direct opposition of the previous week’s drizzle.
Ron Hatcher initially set the bowlers up in pairs and told to them to practice the worst aspect of their delivery.
Having put the bowlers through their practice session, Hatcher then organised the bowlers into teams to take part in a more competitive game.
The next Drills and Skills will be this Saturday starting at 10am.
