On August 21 Orbost “probians” celebrated their 34th year with cake, party hats and balloons at the senior citizens rooms with Life Member Mavis Rayner and newest member Nikki Kellar.
Also remembering past members who have passed on and have had to move away to be close to family.
At 11am members travelled up to Moogji native nursery on Bonang Road.
The weather was perfect and there to welcome the group was Misty Anderson and Susanne Martin.
Misty explained the purpose of seeds and the native plants and the bush tucker plants that are still used and eaten today.
Misty showed the group the collection of seeds and the patience needed to see them germinate.
The plants are grown to re-vegetate
the riverbanks and burnt-out forests.
Sue took the group along the cultural trail, which was a sight to behold.
The tranquility and beauty were extraordinary. The care the people up their take to look after this land was amazing.
They love having visitors and plants are for sale, cash only because they don’t have the electronic machine there.
They are busy with school groups from all over East Gippsland who
visit to learn how important the native
plants are.
Celebrations were ended with a delicious lunch at the Orbost Club.
The September meeting will be a first aid demonstration on how to use a defibrillator with one of the local ambo’s.
An open day will be held on October 16 with raffles, games, food and fun.
An invitation is extended to seniors who enjoy fellowship, fun and friendship.
