Things are starting to heat up at the Orbost Bowling Club, with pennant starting to loom on the horizon.
Thursday’s weather was warm and sunny, a perfect day for bowls, with a good turnout of bowlers for social action, with two local ladies, Mary Long and Janey Morrison joining in for the afternoon.
Two games of eight ends were played with two teams winning both of their games, resulting in a countback.
The winners were Greg Rankin (skip), Sue Robinson, and Beryl Dyce with the runners-up being Ron Hatcher (skip), Dennis McCann and Mary Long.
Sunday’s social bowls was surprisingly well attended, despite the morning showers, with the drizzle obligingly stopping just prior to play.
The match committee decided on two games of eight ends, with only the first game
being disrupted for a few minutes by
a shower.
The winners for the afternoon were Ross O’Brien (skip) and Lorraine Hawkey, who were the only team to win both of their games.
The next social bowls afternoons will be on Thursday followed by the monthly Scroungers competition on Sunday.
On both days, bowlers are asked to be at the Club no later than 12.30pm.
DRILLS AND SKILLS
Saturday saw the biggest roll-up yet for the Saturday morning coaching session, with several of the winter wanderers returning and boosting numbers.
Ron Hatcher decided to concentrate this week on adjusting the weight of delivery for ends of different lengths, asking those present to initially bowl to very short ends and then as the lesson progressed, changing the length of delivery.
The next Drills and Skills will be on Saturday, with the coaching commencing at 10am, although bowlers are welcome to arrive early to have a roll-up before the session begins.
