Victorian squad member Ayden Shea recently attended the 2025 Karate Australia National Championships in Adelaide recently and came home the Kumite Individual U10 Male Australian Champion.
The youngster is the son of former Orbost resident Renee (Konieczny) Shea and her husband Justin of Bacchus Marsh and Grandson of Sue and Rom Konieczny of Orbost.
Ayden qualified for the final with wins of 5-4 in his first bout (winning with a head kick in the last seconds), 8-0 in his second and 4-2 in his third bout to progress to the final.
The final was a tough affair and ended in a 0-0 draw before the five referees awarded Ayden the title, 3-2.
Ayden’s older brother Jaxon and younger sister Hannah are also proficient at the sport.
