Orbost Cricket Club will kick off its 2025/26 campaign this Saturday when it hosts West Bairnsdale in a one-day fixture at the Orbost Recreation Reserve.
The Blues will unveil new imports, Luke Humphries and Josh Court, on a wicket which has had plenty of preparation and will be friendly to plenty of runs.
Humphries is a top order batter and medium pace bowler, while Court is a bowling all rounder, who delivers very accurate spinners.
It’s expected that Humphries will find the surrounds of the Orbost Recreation Reserve to his liking and big things are expected from the blade of the impressive youngsters bat.
Orbost recently hosted Maffra in a practice match and was happy with how they are tracking heading into season, where they hope to play finals cricket.
Big seasons are expected from skipper, Curtley Farley, hard hitting opener, Jayden Price and talented all rounder, Luke Endley.
The Hulme brothers will again form the backbone and the nucleus of the side, which will be keen to start the season with a victory.
West Bairnsdale will be no push over, with talented players like Ryan Halford, Brodie Anderson and Thomas Hudson in its line-up.
As is the norm, all sides are full of expectations this time of year and it may take quite a few weeks to see where each entity fits in the Bairnsdale Cricket Association pecking order.
The Orbost “B” grade side will start its season on October 11 when it plays Bruthen at the Bruthen Recreation Reserve.
The BCA under 13 competition will commence on October 10 and the under 16s on October 11.
