The Wilderness Coast Artists (WCA) are pleased to announce their new artist of the month program.
Each month a WCA member’s artwork will be showcased in a mini exhibition on the feature wall in the new studio space at the Snowy Wilderness Discovery Centre in Orbost.
Members of the public are invited to visit and view on Tuesdays or at other times by contacting the Wilderness Coast Artists.
The inaugural artist of the month is Rein Jongkryg, Rein is a long time member of the WCA and has exhibited his artwork in many exhibitions, winning several awards.
His paintings and drawings feature a variety of subjects including landscapes, people and animals.
He has carried out many commissions and has artworks in Italy, Canada and Holland.
Rein studied art with Jan Long for many years and is accomplished in drawing and classical painting techniques.
He also studied with renowned landscape artist, Leonard Long OAM.
His artwork will be on display in the studio throughout October.
The recent Wilderness Coast Artists’ Open Studio Day was very successful.
Artist talks and painting demonstrations were well attended by locals and visitors from as far away as Port Macquarie.
Anita Lutze presented an informative talk on portraiture, Lyn Lewis demonstrated painting a bird in watercolour, Cynthia demonstrated acrylic painting techniques with some informative information about the history of the Wilderness Coast Artists and Ngaere Donald created am oil painting using palette knife.
Several new members have been welcomed to the WCA since the open day.
Open art days are held every every Tuesday and a drawing group convenes every second Monday afternoon.
A new topic for each session challenges participants with drawing exercises and explorations of media and techniques.
In other WCA news, nine members will be participating in an upcoming group exhibition at the Orbost Arts Centre.
The exhibition, titled From the Mountains to Sea, will opened by Elizabeth Bakewell, of Lemon Hill Gallery on October 31 from
4.30 to 6pm.
The work features paintings and drawings relating to the diversity of environments to be discovered in East Gippsland.
Three of the members are currently exhibiting their work in the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors (MSWPS) exhibition, Changing Perspectives held at the Victorian Artists Society Galleries on Albert Street, East Melbourne.
Jan Martin, well-known watercolorist and member of WCA held a successful demonstration of watercolour painting on Saturday October 4.
Her demonstration painting of an empty birds nest captivated visitors to the exhibition.
