The Orbost Bowling Club rounded off its preparation for the Gippsland Bowls Region pennant season with a practice match at Metung last Saturday.
A team of 17 bowlers from Orbost travelled to Metung, where they enjoyed a barbecue lunch before commencing the game.
Despite not having good results on the rinks, the Orbost players enjoyed a very sociable and friendly afternoon and would
like to thank the Metung Club for their hospitality.
It’s shaping up to be a busy week, with both midweek and weekend pennant commencing.
The weekend pennant season will commence with division one, away at Howitt Park, while division four will host Tambo Valley.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The first club championships for the 2025/26 season will be the men’s and ladies 100 up matches, which will be held on Thursday, October 23.
Entries form are on the outside noticeboard at the club and have all the relevant information.
SOCIAL BOWLS
The warm sunny, but breezy weather saw a good turnout for Thursday social bowls, with two games of 10 ends organised for the day with the outright winners
for the afternoon being Lyn
O’Brien (skip), Ralph Harding and Dennis McCann.
However, Sunday’s social bowls was a smaller affair following on from the Metung practice match and competing against Bathurst.
Despite the smaller numbers, it was still possible to fill two rinks and play two games of eight
ends in overcast and slightly
humid conditions.
The winners for the afternoon, winning both of their games, were Bruce Kneebone (skip), Ron Hatcher and Maurice Frank.
The next social bowls will be on Thursday, with bowlers required to be at the club no later than 12.30pm.
