Round one of Gippsland Bowls Region pennant saw the full gamut of results for the Orbost Bowls Club, a win, a loss and a draw.
The loss was in last Tuesday’s midweek pennant away game against Bairnsdale 3, with Orbost going down in the division two clash, 52-55.
Orbost shared the rinks, Trevor Perry, Lynette O’Brien, Gwen Hatcher and Geoff Lynn winners 20-14, while Jurgen Fichtner, Jennifer Gurney, Robyn Kellow and Greg Rankin halved their rink 14-14.
In weekend pennant, Orbost drew it’s away game in division one match with Howitt Park 62-62, with the rinks again halved.
Geoff Lynn, Scott Farnell, Kellow and Karen Chenney comprehensively winning 27-20, while Bruce Kneebone, Maurice Frank, Ron Hatcher and Hayden Lancaster drew their rink, 19-19.
The only home game for Orbost in the round, pitted Orbost’s division four side up against Tambo Valley, with the Green Machine scoring a huge clean sweep 56-26 win.
The win was particularly satisfying because the side contained several of Orbost’s newer bowlers in their first pennant match.
Amongst the winners were Fichtner, Dennis McCann, Ralph Harding, O’Brien (32-10), and Lorraine Hawkey, Janice Lynn, Trevor Hawkey and Gurney (24-16).
Weekend Pennant this week will see division one at home against Bairnsdale and division four away to Paynesville.

Sunday’s social bowls was played in warm, slightly overcast conditions, but for the first time in a while there was no breeze.
With three rinks in play, it was decided to play two games of ten ends with the winners for the afternoon being Geoff Lynn (skip) and Harding.
The next social bowls will be on Sunday, as the Club’s men’s and ladies 100 Up Championships will be held on Thursday.
