The annual Mallacoota Cup was recently played, with this year’s winners the Good Boys Football Club, who were also winners in 2022.
The Mallacoota Soccer Club put on a fantastic weekend of football in Mallacoota, with teams from across Victoria and New South Wales taking part.
Although there were two fewer teams than last year, the competition remained fierce and the atmosphere vibrant, another great weekend on the coast for players, officials, volunteers and supporters alike.
This year’s line-up featured eight teams, Sale United Football Club, Mallacoota United, East Gippsland United Football
Club, Kissing Point Football Club, Cooma Tigers Football Club, Hornsby RSL Football Club, South Coast United and Good Boys Football Club.
The Good Boys won the hard fought decider over Kissing Point, 1-0, scoring deep into the second period of extra time.
Other semi-finalists were South Coast and Mallacoota United, with Sale and Hornsby RSL going out in the elimination finals.
Sale United’s Jake Richardson was named goalkeeper of the tournament, taking home the Mike Gaut Perpetual Trophy.
Beyond the action on the pitch, the Mallacoota Cup continues to be a major boost for the local economy, bringing extra visitors to the coastal community as it gears up for the peak holiday season.
Planning is already underway for next year’s event.
