Last Tuesday, the Orbost Bowling Club midweek pennant side, impressed winning at home 78-47 over Howitt Park, moving into the top four in the process.
It was a clean sweep for the Green Machine, led by Geoff Lynn’s team of Gwen Hatcher, Lyn O’Brien and Trevor Perry, impressive victors 30-15.
Also impressing were Jurgen Fichtner, Jennifer Gurney, Robyn Kellow, Greg Rankin (25-19) and Beryl Dyce, Ron Hatcher, Bruce Kneebone and Maurie Frank (23-13).
In weekend pennant, round two proved to be very good for Orbost, with both division one and four successful.
The division one side played at home against Bairnsdale 2 winning 65-44, the first victory of the campaign propelling them to second on the table.
The victory was set up by Peter Coulton’s team of Ross O’Brien, Gwen Hatcher and Beryl Dyce having excellent win of 31-7.
Geoff Lynn, Scott Farnell, Robyn Kellow and Karen Chenney were also winners 17-16.
Division four had an away game against Paynesville and managed to come home with all the points, 35-29 victors.
There had been some concern about the game as Orbost could only field seven bowlers, which meant that one of the teams only had three of the required four bowlers.
This also meant that the team of three had to compete with only six bowls against a Paynesville team with eight.
Despite these handicaps, O’Brien’s team, which included Fichtner and Ralph Harding won 17-14 while Jenny Gurney, Janice Lynn, Vanessa Frank and Trevor Perry were successful 18-15.
This week, division one play Bairnsdale 3 away, with division four having the bye.

The highest point scorers for round one of the Scroungers were Karen Chenney (35), Beryl Dyce (32) and Vanessa Frank (28).
The next social bowls will be on Thursday after the conclusion of the remaining 100 Up Championship matches.
